Fez, Morocco's oldest Imperial capital, is a natural jumping-off point for the Sahara: several of our shortest departures head straight from the Fez medina to the dunes at Merzouga in as little as two days. It's also a common finish or start point for longer Imperial Cities routes that continue on to Marrakech, Essaouira, or the northern coast.
If you're arriving in Fez by air or train and want to see the desert without doubling back, a Fez-based tour is usually the most direct route in the whole country. Longer options combine the desert with Marrakech and Casablanca, or head north through Chefchaouen and Tangier.
