▾
Overnight: Riad or hotel in Rabat

After a morning pickup from your Casablanca hotel or airport, you start at the Hassan II Mosque, its walls rising straight out of the Atlantic and its minaret, at 210 metres, the tallest in the world. A walk along the Casablanca corniche follows.

The road runs north along the coastal highway to Rabat, where the afternoon takes in the Hassan Tower, the unfinished minaret of a vast 12th century mosque, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V with its richly painted ceiling, and the blue and white Kasbah of the Udayas above the Bouregreg river.

You can add an optional sunset walk in the Andalusian gardens, then dinner in the Rabat medina if you like.

Overnight: Riad in the Marrakech medina

After breakfast you head south for Marrakech, a long drive but a scenic one, through the Moroccan countryside and the Atlantic plains via Casablanca, with stops along the way for rest, photos, and lunch.

You reach Marrakech by mid-afternoon and check into your traditional riad inside the medina. In the evening, walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa and watch it turn at sunset into Morocco's largest open-air theatre: storytellers, musicians, snake charmers, henna artists, and food stalls serving everything from grilled brochettes to harira soup.
