Description
Overview
This 7-day tour from Fez to Casablanca is one of Morocco's most complete itineraries: a full crossing from the cultural capital through the Sahara, the vibrant energy of Marrakech, and the Atlantic coast at Essaouira, ending in Casablanca.
From Fez, you travel south through the Middle Atlas and the Ziz Valley to Merzouga for a camel trek and a night in the desert camp. The road then turns west through Todra Gorges, Aït Ben Haddou, and the High Atlas to Marrakech, and on along the coast to Essaouira before the trip ends in Casablanca.

Welcome to Fez. After you check in, a licensed local guide leads you through the UNESCO-listed medina for the full day, the world's largest car-free urban area and the oldest living medieval city anywhere.
You visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, with its carved stucco and zellige tilework, the Karaouine mosque, founded in 859 AD and considered the world's oldest continuously operating university, and the Chouara tanneries, where leather is still dyed by hand using methods unchanged in a thousand years.
Afternoons are free for lunch and shopping among the brassworkers, weavers, and dyers of the artisan souks.

It's a long driving day, and a spectacular one. You stop in Ifrane, often called the "Switzerland of Morocco," and the cedar forest at Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques are often spotted, before lunch in Midelt.
The road descends through the Ziz Valley's palm gorge into the pre-Saharan landscape. You arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon, meet your camels at the edge of the dunes, and ride into the golden Erg Chebbi for sunset.
Dinner is Berber-style around the fire, with drums and a sky thick with stars overhead. You spend the night in a luxury desert camp.
3
▾
You wake before dawn to climb the highest dune crest for sunrise. After a Berber breakfast at camp, the drive continues west via Erfoud and Tinghir to the Todra Gorges, where 300-metre cliffs frame a clear river below.
From the gorges, the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs leads to the Dades Valley, where wind and water have carved the rock into strange, folded shapes. You spend the night in a kasbah hotel overlooking the valley.
4
▾
The road passes through the rose-scented Valley of Roses near Kalaat Mgouna, best visited in May during the rose festival, then on to the lush Skoura palm grove and its imposing Kasbah Amerhidil, one of the largest in Morocco.
You reach Aït Ben Haddou in the late afternoon, Morocco's most spectacular UNESCO-listed earthen ksar. Cross the river into the fortified village and climb to the top for sunset.
5
▾
The morning is free at Aït Ben Haddou before you begin the crossing of the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres, switchback after switchback through Berber villages with the mountains opening up around you.
You reach Marrakech by mid-afternoon and check into your riad inside the medina. In the evening, walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa as it turns at sunset into Morocco's largest open-air theatre.
6
▾
A licensed local guide takes you through Marrakech in the morning: the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the souks. A visit to the Majorelle Garden is optional.
After lunch, the road runs west through the argan plains to Essaouira, a UNESCO-listed port town of whitewashed walls and blue shutters. In the evening, walk the ramparts and have dinner at the harbour.
7
▾
After a final breakfast by the sea, the road runs north along the coast to Casablanca, stopping at the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, set right over the ocean.
You walk the Casablanca corniche and have lunch overlooking the Atlantic before your driver drops you at your hotel or Casablanca airport.

We took a tour of Morocco accompanied by guide, Karim and Abdel, the driver. They are very good people, who accompanied and guided us throughout the trip. We had a great time, visiting all the corners from Fez, passing through the desert of Mezourga, Ouarzazate, Cinema studios, Kasbah, Ait ben haddou, to the Riads of Marrakech. the food and services provided by Karim and Abdel are of the highest quality.
